Shooting during a document check: a police officer was killed in Sloviansk

In the city of Sloviansk, an unknown man opened fire on police officers during a routine document check. Police Captain Oleg Zakharenko died from his injuries. The attacker fled, and a manhunt is underway.

What happened
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in Sloviansk.
According to the National Police of Ukraine, a police patrol was checking the documents of a man whose behavior seemed suspicious. During the check, he opened fire on the law enforcement officers.
As a result of the shooting, Police Captain Oleg Zakharenko—a senior district police officer with Police Department No. 4 of the Kramatorsk District Police Administration—was killed at the scene.
