On January 13, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv extended the detention of Nestor Shufrich, a member of parliament from the banned Opposition Platform — For Life party, until March 13, 2026. At the same time, the court set bail at over 33 million hryvnia. This was reported by Suspilne , according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The court rejected the defense’s request to change the preventive measure to non-isolation. The lawyers insisted on an alternative to arrest, citing, in particular, medical certificates and the willingness of a private clinic to accept Shufrich for rehabilitation after surgery.
Positions of the parties
Shufrich himself stated in court that he considers his detention to be illegal. The defense announced an appeal against both the preventive measure itself and the amount of bail, seeking to have it reduced.
Along with the deputy, the court also left his former assistant, Vyacheslav Cherepanya, in custody.
What are the allegations
The Office of the Prosecutor General reminds us that the indictment was sent to court back in September 2024, and the case is still being considered. The defendants are charged with financing actions aimed at violently changing the constitutional order and seizing power (Part 3 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code).
Shufrich is additionally accused of high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, after the occupation of Crimea, the defendants re-registered real estate under Russian law, concluded security agreements with illegal paramilitary formations, and transferred funds to the Russian Guard. The investigation also believes that the deputy coordinated his actions with a former high-ranking official of the National Security and Defense Council, who has been working in Russia since 2014 and spreading pro-Russian narratives.
On November 19, 2025, the court extended Shufrich’s arrest without the option of bail until January 17, 2026.
On January 6, 2026, the Kyiv Court of Appeals changed the preventive measure, allowing bail in the amount of UAH 33.28 million.
The current decision of the court of first instance confirmed the possibility of bail but did not soften the preventive measure itself.
The next step will be an appeal review, where the defense will try to review both the grounds for arrest and the amount of bail.
