Supermarkets as “points of resilience”: in the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv, some stores are open around the clock

30 January 19:16

In the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv, a number of supermarkets have switched to a 24-hour format, combining trade with the functions of “points of invincibility.” There, you can not only buy food, but also rest, warm up, and recharge your gadgets. This was reported by the district administration, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Which chains are involved?

These are the Silpo, Novus, Varus, and ATB chains, as well as tent cities and volunteer initiatives that serve as support spaces during power outages.

What supermarkets offer

Two Silpo stores — at 61/2 Mykoly Zakrevskoho Street and 91/29a Honoré de Balzac Street — offer:

  • 24-hour food sales
  • seating for 20–30 people
  • work tables
  • gadget charging
  • free hot drinks
  • microwave oven
  • autonomous power supply from a generator
  • basements as simple shelters

At night, these locations operate as “points of resilience”: all goods are sold except alcohol and tobacco.

The Novus store at 85 Chervonoyi Kaliny Avenue provides at least one cash register, access to hot drinks, seating, and the ability to recharge devices.

Varus at 44a Chervonoyi Kaliny Street also offers hot drinks, seating, and power outlets for gadgets.

The ATB chain offers the opportunity to drink tea and recharge your devices at the following addresses:

  • 9 Mykoly Lavrukhina Street.
  • 4 Lisovy Ave.
  • 7 Kashtanova Street;
  • 60/10 Chervonoyi Kaliny Ave.
  • 89b Chervonoyi Kaliny Ave.
  • 62 Honoré de Balzac Street;

Additional warming centers

In addition to supermarkets, the following are also operating in the area:

  • State Emergency Service warming tents
  • volunteer support points
  • community initiatives

Here, visitors can drink hot tea, rest, and use access to electricity.

The “Points of Resilience” format in Ukraine emerged in response to attacks on energy infrastructure and power outages. The involvement of private businesses in this initiative has become one of the mechanisms for expanding the network of assistance to the population.
