Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won the Australian Open-2025 and advanced to the second round of the first Grand Slam of the year. This was reported by Suspilne Sport, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
On the night of January 13, the 30-year-old Ukrainian tennis player defeated 34-year-old Romanian Sorana Kyrstiu 2:0 (6:4, 6:4). The rivals met for the fourth time. In the three previous meetings, Svitolina also won.
For the 11th time in a row, Elina Svitolina has reached the second round at the Australian Open. The last time the tennis player failed to overcome the opening round was in 2013.
Svitolina’s next opponent will be American Caroline Dowlgade, who started the Australian Open with a victory over Czech qualifier Sara Beilek. The tennis players will have their first face-to-face meeting.
The Australian Open 2025 takes place on January 14-26 at Melbourne Park. This is the first victory for the Ukrainian since September. After the US Open, she had foot surgery and missed the final tournaments of the season.
