Thanks to this victory, the Ukrainian national team secured a 2-0 lead in the confrontation with Spain. Therefore, the doubles match no longer had tournament significance and was not held.
Thus, for the first time in history, the Ukrainian team made it to the semifinals of both the Billie Jean King Cup and its predecessor, the Federation Cup. Previously, the highest achievement was the quarterfinals in 2010 and 2012.
In the semifinals, the Ukrainians will play against the Italian national team, which defeated the tournament hosts, the Chinese team, the day before. Ahead is a new challenge and a chance for our national team to rewrite the history of Ukrainian tennis.
