Andriy Shevchenko’s son gets Ukrainian citizenship to play for the national team

The son of the famous Ukrainian footballer and president of the Ukrainian Football Association Andriy Shevchenko, 17-year-old Watford forward Christian Shevchenko has been granted Ukrainian citizenship and will soon play for the Ukrainian national teams. This was reported by Sport.ua, according to Kommersant Ukrainian

According to the publication, the procedure for obtaining citizenship was quite quick and took about two months. Now Christian Shevchenko has to register his “football citizenship” with FIFA.

After that, he will be able to play for the national teams. In particular, according to the newspaper, Christian has a chance to play for the U19 national team of Ukraine at the end of March. The team’s coach, Dmytro Mykhailenko, sees him as a winger.

“I am in contact with the coaches and analysts of Watford. I watched his last three games. He has a very decent level, so we plan to call him up,”

– mykhailenko said.

Christian Shevchenko was born in 2006 in London. He began his football career at Chelsea Academy and joined Watford in the summer of 2023. Currently, he plays as a centre forward, mainly for Watford’s U17-U18 teams, and has also played for the U21s.

According to the Law of Ukraine “On Citizenship of Ukraine”, “A person whose parents or one of their parents were citizens of Ukraine at the time of his or her birth is a citizen of Ukraine”.
