The fighting between Thailand and Cambodia, which began a week ago, continued on Sunday, December 14. According to a spokesperson for the Thai Ministry of Defense, Cambodia fired and bombed a number of border provinces of the kingdom, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
For its part, the Cambodian Ministry of Defense said that after midnight, Thailand fired mortar shells and bombs at the territory of this state.
Meanwhile, a curfew was imposed in a number of Thai provinces bordering Cambodia from 19:00 to 05:00. The day before, Cambodia closed its border crossings with Thailand.
Thai Prime Minister denies Trump’s words about a truce
On December 12, US President Donald Trump held telephone talks with the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, Anuthin Shanwirakun and Hun Maneth, after which he said that the two countries had agreed to end all hostilities on the same day, December 12.
However, neither Anuthin nor Hun mentioned such an agreement in their statements following the conversation. The Thai prime minister directly denied the truce agreement.
“Thailand will continue military action until we feel that the threat and danger to our country and our people has disappeared,” he wrote on Facebook.
In his Facebook post, Cambodia’s prime minister mentioned his conversation with Trump, but said his country was still seeking a peaceful solution based on the agreement signed in October in Kuala Lumpur.
