“Yes”: Elon Musk unexpectedly supports the idea of impeaching Donald Trump

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and the X social network, has unexpectedly supported the idea of impeaching Donald Trump, whom he has repeatedly defended publicly. This is evidenced by his comment on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Musk replied with a short “Yes” to a post by Malaysian journalist Ian Miles Chong, who suggested removing Trump from the US presidency and transferring powers to his Vice President J.D. Vance.
In his post, Chong wrote:
“President vs. Elon. Who will win? My money is on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should take his place.”
Musk, who has previously expressed support for free speech and criticized Joe Biden’s administration, has recently begun to distance himself from Trump. His short but clear response may indicate a change in the political vector of the influential businessman ahead of the 2024 elections.
At the time of publication, neither Trump nor his campaign had responded to Musk’s statement.
The conflict between Elon Musk and Donald Trump , which erupted in June 2025, became one of the most high-profile political confrontations of the year.
Causes of the conflict
Relations between Musk and Trump deteriorated after Musk sharply criticized Trump’s bill called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, calling it a “disgusting abomination” due to a significant increase in the budget deficit. In response, Trump threatened to cancel government subsidies for Musk’s companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX. Musk, in turn, said that Trump would have lost the 2024 election without his support.
Public escalation
The conflict went public when Musk supported the idea of impeaching Trump, saying that he should be replaced by Vice President J.D. Vance. He also published a post claiming that Trump has ties to Jeffrey Epstein, although he did not provide evidence of this.
Business implications
This conflict had serious consequences for Musk’s business. Tesla shares fell by over 14%, resulting in a loss of over $150 billion in market capitalization. In addition, the US government canceled tax incentives for Tesla electric vehicles and excluded xAI from key government contracts.
Musk’s political ambitions
Prior to the conflict, Musk served as the head of the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), where he was responsible for auditing federal programs and reducing costs. His active involvement in political life and attempts to influence personnel appointments caused tension among Trump’s associates.
The conflict between Musk and Trump demonstrates how quickly political alliances can change and what consequences this can have for business and politics. It also highlights the risks associated with combining business interests and political power.
