Telegram introduces Passkey for authorization on iOS and Android

8 December 05:13

Telegram has added the Passkey passwordless authorization feature for iOS and Android users. The new option is available in the Privacy section of the settings. To activate it, you need to create an access key and confirm your identity using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“The login key will be stored on the device and will allow you to log in to your account without additional confirmation in the form of SMS codes and passwords,” the feature description explains.

Kod Durov wrote that Telegram started testing authorization through password managers.

This feature is part of a global industry trend to abandon vulnerable passwords and one-time SMS codes that are susceptible to phishing and SIM swapping. Previously, such large platforms as Google Account, Apple ID, and Microsoft have implemented similar technology. It is expected that Passkey in Telegram will become available to all users in one of the next stable updates.

Telegram is a messenger created in 2013 by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov. In 2025, the service’s monthly audience exceeded 1 billion users.
