Greenhouse cucumbers rise in price again before the holidays: prices increased by 20% in a week
24 December 16:19
Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine increased by an average of 20% over the past week. Currently, the products are sold for 110-140 UAH per kilogram. This was reported by the EastFruit analytical project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Why this is happening
Analysts of the EastFruit project explain the rise in price primarily by a reduction in supply. Most Ukrainian greenhouse plants have already completed the sales season, while imports, in particular from Turkey, remain unstable.
Demand on the eve of the holidays
Market operators note that the previous short-term price drop stimulated demand growth. Wholesale companies and retail chains have begun to actively stockpile for the New Year holidays, which puts additional pressure on prices.
Key market players predict further acceleration in the growth of prices for greenhouse vegetables. Almost all of the cucumbers on the market are currently imported, mainly from Turkey, where prices have also risen.
In early December, wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers were the highest in at least eight years. As of December 12, prices temporarily dropped to 90-120 UAH/kg, but the market started to grow again on the eve of the holidays.
