Terrorist attack in Mykolaiv: 7 police officers injured

An explosion occurred at a disused gas station in Mykolaiv. Seven patrol police officers were injured in the incident, two of whom are in serious condition. Law enforcement officials have not ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack. This was reported by the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhovsky, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

What happened in Mykolaiv

According to Vygivsky, the explosion occurred at 6:10 p.m. at a disused gas station in Mykolaiv.

“As a result, seven patrol police officers who had arrived for their shift change and parked their cars there were injured,” said the head of the National Police.

It has been preliminarily established that an explosive device detonated. Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating its origin.

As a result of the explosion:

  • seven police officers suffered injuries of varying severity
  • two law enforcement officers are in serious condition
  • vehicles were damaged

The victims are receiving the necessary medical care.

The president’s reaction

Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the incident. The head of state said that the possibility of a terrorist attack is being considered.

“All circumstances are being investigated, and, in particular, the possibility of a terrorist act is being examined. I have instructed the National Police and the Security Service to inform the public about the necessary details,” the president said.

Police say it was a targeted attack

Ivan Vyhovsky recalled the recent terrorist attack in Lviv and said that the enemy is trying to destabilize the situation in the country.

“The enemy is deliberately trying to kill Ukrainian police officers who stand guard every day to protect the people and the state. We regard these events as a targeted attack on the law enforcement system,” he stressed.

Officially: this is a terrorist attack

The National Police stated that the incident has been classified as a terrorist act.

“Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — terrorist act. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region,” the agency said.

An investigative team, bomb disposal experts, and other specialized services are working at the scene. Police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved in the crime.

Terrorist attack in Lviv

On the night of February 22, two explosions occurred in the center of Lviv. After the patrol police crew arrived at the scene of a report of a break-in at a store, an explosion occurred. After the arrival of the second crew, another explosion occurred.

As a result of the terrorist attack, a 23-year-old policewoman was killed and 25 other people were injured to varying degrees.

A 33-year-old resident of the Rivne region is suspected of committing the crime. According to the investigation, she acted on the instructions of a so-called “curator” of the Russian special services.
