Electricity imports from Europe are not able to fully cover the deficit in the power system due to a significant loss of electricity generation as a result of the Russian attack.

This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo, on the air of UP. Live, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to Kudrytskyi, the previously announced restriction of power supply for industrial consumers is “almost guaranteed” to take place, while for household consumers it “depends on how much we as consumers can save and voluntarily limit our power consumption”.

He added that the 8 May attack caused a significant shortfall in generation.

“Many important power plants were damaged, including three DTEK power plants and two hydroelectric power plants, so we are experiencing this shortage.

Unfortunately, Ukrenergo’s facilities are constantly targeted by the enemy, but the impact on the company’s facilities is not crucial for the power system now, the damage to a large number of power units at TPPs and HPPs is crucial,” explained the Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo.

“The damage is quite extensive, and the loss of generation is quite significant. So significant that even electricity imports from Europe are not able to completely cover the deficit in the power system,

– he emphasised.

According to him, repair work is ongoing, with different facilities having different degrees of damage.

As a reminder, on the night of 8 May, Russia launched its fifth massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine’s energy sector since 22 March. Power outages occurred in Dnipropetrovs’k, Donetsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Kharkiv and Sumy regions. During the morning peak hours, Ukraine requested emergency electricity supplies from the power systems of Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
