The team of US Vice President J.D. Vance has asked the US Army Corps of Engineers to change the water level in the Little Miami River in Ohio to create favorable conditions for Vance to go canoeing during his vacation. This was reported byThe Guardian, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the newspaper, on August 2, the day of his 41st birthday, Vance was seen in southwestern Ohio, where he was canoeing down the river. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) confirmed that the request to change the water outlet from the lake came from the U.S. Secret Service, allegedly to “ensure safe navigation” of security personnel.

However, The Guardian ‘s source claims that it was not only about safety, but also about creating “ideal conditions for kayaking” for the vice president himself. According to the US Geological Survey, the water level in the Little Miami River suddenly rose, while the level in the lake from which it is fed dropped.

The USACE has previously regulated water flows for local events or exercises, but, according to a journalist source, such changes are not usually made at the request of an individual.

This incident caused a wave of criticism, especially against the backdrop of funding cuts to the National Park Service (NPS) initiated by the Trump administration, which resulted in many employees losing their jobs.
