The Hill: Republicans urge Trump to restore military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine
7 March 20:45
In the United States, Republican lawmakers are calling on US President Donald Trump to restore US military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine.
This was reported by The Hill, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the Republicans, Trump had the right to temporarily suspend arms supplies to Ukraine in order to assess the course of the war, put pressure on NATO allies, and create a window for negotiating a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
Republican lawmakers warn that a prolonged cutoff of U.S. aid to the war effort would have serious negative consequences. In particular, it would undermine its leverage in negotiations with Russia.
Republican lawmakers also say that intelligence sharing should resume immediately. In their view, the United States is unlikely to benefit from depriving Ukraine of critical intelligence from the battlefield.
“This is a concern for the Ukrainian people. I’m more concerned about how people on the battlefield will react to this,” said Senator Tom Tillis.
Tillis warned that a pause in aid “could be good for Putin.” He says he is not against a pause if it is a short-term “negotiating tactic.”
What do we know about the pause in U.S. intelligence and assistance?
on March 4, U.S. President Donald Trump suspended all U.S. aid to Ukraine, including that ordered by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
The next day, the Daily Mail and Financial Times reported that the United States had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine.
Subsequently, CIA Director John Ratcliffe officially confirmed that the United States had suspended arms and intelligence transfers to Ukraine, expressing that he looked forward to lifting the pause.
