Tragedy in Dnipropetrovs’k region: a couple tortured their son for four days, the boy died of injuries

A couple who beat their 4-year-old son to death will be tried in the Dnipro region. According to the regional prosecutor’s office, in July 2025, the father and mother beat the child with their hands, feet, and a metal pipe for more than four days, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The reason for the abuse was the boy’s “disobedience” and the fact that he took bread and cookies without permission.
Circumstances of the crime
According to the investigation, the child was beaten in the presence of other children. At least 12 injuries to the head, more than 10 injuries to the torso and limbs, as well as a broken arm and dislocated shoulder were found on the body.
The forensic examination established that the boy died of traumatic shock.
Further actions
The couple was arrested and is being held in custody without bail. They are charged with the intentional murder of a young child with particular cruelty (Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to life imprisonment.
In addition, the court is considering a lawsuit to deprive them of their parental rights in relation to two more children.
Ukraine has recorded cases of domestic violence against children even in times of war. According to the National Police, in 2024, more than 2,500 criminal proceedings were registered under articles related to child abuse.
Human rights activists emphasize that the social protection system often fails to respond to child danger signals, especially in families with alcohol or domestic violence problems.
