US President Donald Trump said that today, August 6, representatives of his country and Russia will hold a bilateral meeting. The US president is probably referring to the visit of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who is due to arrive in Moscow this week, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Clash Report.
According to the US President, following this meeting, he will address the issue of imposing tariffs on Russia. According to media reports, Steve Witkoff’s plane is already on its way to Moscow.
“Today (Wednesday, August 6 – ed.) we have a meeting with Russia. We’ll see what happens,” Trump said during a speech to reporters late on August 5, Kyiv time.
The US president added that he was working “harder than ever” to end the war in Ukraine.
“This is what I’m trying to stop. This is what we are working on most intensively. I stopped other (wars – ed.) in a few days,” Trump said.
What is known about Witkoff’s visit to Moscow
According to media reports, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff will visit Moscow on Wednesday, August 6, to meet with the Russian leadership.
At the same time, the AFP source did not confirm whether Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, with whom Vitkoff has met several times before, would be present at the meetings.
