President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US presidential candidate Donald Trump held a briefing for journalists after their meeting in New York, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

Zelenskyy emphasised a “just peace”:

“We need a just peace – this is very important for us… This is a great tragedy.”

When it came to Trump, he was asked whether he had changed his mind about the Russian-Ukrainian war after talking to Zelenskyy, and replied:

“I’ve learned a lot, but I don’t think I’ve changed my mind that we both want to see an end to this, and we both want a fair deal. It has to be fair. I think it will happen. It has to happen. The President [Zelenskyy] wants it to end, he wants it to end as soon as possible, he wants a fair deal,”

– trump said.

He added that he is busy with the election campaign, so he cannot do much. But after the election, everything will be fast.

“I believe that if I win, we will have a fair and probably quick deal. This has to be stopped. President [Zelenskyy] wants to stop it, and I’m sure President Putin wants to stop it. And that’s a good combination. So, we want a fair deal for everyone,”

– the candidate said.

When asked by a journalist whether Putin’s invasion was fair, Trump said it was too early to say, he had his own thoughts on it, and Zelenskyy had his own. However, they agree that “it has to be stopped”.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy took the initiative and stressed that Putin is a murderer and he is on our territory, so in order to stop the war, we need to put pressure on him. Trump listened calmly and tried to summarise his words:

“This is a war that should not have happened… We have to put this puzzle together. A lot of people are dead. So many cities, beautiful cities… I don’t know if we can rebuild them… This is a beautiful country, beautiful weather, beautiful everything… This war should not have happened…”

As reported by , President Zelenskyy’s current visit to the United States is accompanied by a loud scandal – Republicans accused him of interfering in the US election, as he visited a plant in Pennsylvania that produces ammunition, including for Ukraine. At the same time, the US delegation did not include any Republicans, and Pennsylvania is a swing state, so there is a serious struggle for votes here. The US Congress even launched an investigation into the visit.

After that, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson refused to meet with Zelenskyy, citing his busy schedule. It was also reported that Trump himself had ignored Zelenskyy’s proposals for a meeting. Recently, he has somewhat stepped up his almost anti-Ukrainian rhetoric. In particular, Trump has called Zelenskyy “the best salesman in history” because he makes billions of dollars every time he comes to Washington.

Trump also published a message from Zelenskyy asking for a meeting, but apparently the meeting did take place.
