Trump takes revenge for Greenland: supporting countries under attack

The United States will impose 10% tariffs on several European countries that have sided with Greenland by sending their military to the island. Among the NATO countries that US President Donald Trump has decided to punish are the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

The US president announced his decision on Saturday, January 17, on his social media platform Truth Social, according to The Guardian.

“Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland have gone to Greenland for unknown reasons. This is a very dangerous situation for the security and survival of our planet,” Donald Trump wrote in his post.

The US president said that from February 1, a 10% tariff will be imposed on all goods exported by these countries to the United States, and from June 1, a 25% tariff will be imposed.

“These tariffs will be payable until a deal is made for the total and complete purchase of Greenland,” he added.

Trump repeated his warning that “China and Russia want Greenland,” saying that “Denmark can’t do anything about it.”

He also said that the US has allegedly “subsidized Denmark and all other European Union countries” for many years without charging them tariffs or any other form of compensation. For this, Trump believes, Denmark should “thank” the US and give up control of the island of Greenland.

Recall that on January 16, US President Donald Trump announced his readiness to apply economic pressure to implement plans for Greenland. During a roundtable discussion at the White House, he stressed that control over the island is a matter of strategic importance for the United States.
