U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated the need for a face-to-face meeting between Russian and Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reach a peaceful settlement. They need to join forces to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, Trump said in a speech on Tuesday, September 30, to the top commanders of the US Army at a military base in Quantico, Virginia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.

Trump is disappointed with Putin

According to the US president, the result can only be achieved “from a position of strength.” Trump warned that he had ordered the deployment of “a submarine or two” off the Russian coast and recalled the modernization of the US nuclear arsenal. He expressed hope that the United States would not have to use it. Donald Trump also again called Russia a “paper tiger” and reiterated that he was disappointed with Vladimir Putin, as he expected him to end the military action in Ukraine quickly.

Trump acknowledged that the fighting in Gaza and Ukraine continues despite his administration’s mediation and efforts to resolve the conflicts. He also called on the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas to agree to the US-proposed peace agreement on the Gaza Strip. “Hamas has to agree, and if they don’t agree, they’re going to have a very hard time,” he added.

Speaking to high-ranking military officials, Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized the need for an ideological turnaround in the armed forces and preparation for a possible war. The American president also expressed confidence in the need to award him the Nobel Peace Prize.
