Trump named the main obstacle to negotiations between Ukraine and Russia
30 January 22:29
US President Donald Trump said that the key obstacle to peace talks between Ukraine and Russia is the personal animosity between the leaders of both countries. At the same time, he believes that there is still a chance to reach an agreement. The American leader said this on Friday, January 30, while signing decrees at the White House, responding to journalists’ questions about the prospects for negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow without the direct involvement of the US, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“There is a chance for success”
Commenting on the possibility of reaching a peace agreement, Trump said he does not consider the negotiation process hopeless.
“There is a chance for success,” the US president said, once again emphasizing his own experience in resolving international conflicts.
According to him, the main problem remains the deep conflict between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“Zelensky and Putin hate each other, and that complicates everything,” Trump acknowledged.
Trump announced “progress toward a settlement”
Despite the complex personal dynamics between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, the US president expressed cautious optimism about further developments.
“I think we are getting closer to a settlement,” he said.
Trump also reiterated his assessment of the scale of human losses in the war and stressed the need to stop the fighting as soon as possible.
“I think we have a good chance of reaching an agreement,” the White House chief added.
New round of negotiations
We remind you that on February 1, another round of negotiations on a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is scheduled.
The parties are expected to discuss the key parameters of a possible settlement, including security and political issues.
