Trump did not exclude Hungary from sanctions against Russian oil companies

US President Donald Trump has refused to make an exception for Budapest from the recently imposed sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, despite a personal request from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Answering questions from journalists aboard the presidential Air Force One on Friday, October 31, Trump confirmed that Orban had directly addressed him on this issue, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
“He (Orban – Ed.) asked us for an exception, we did not give it, but he asked us,” the White House chief said.
Orban referred to Hungary’s dependence on oil supplies from Russia
Viktor Orban has previously expressed hope that during his meeting with Trump on November 7, he will be able to convince him that Hungary is in a special situation. As an argument, the politician mentioned his country’s high dependence on energy supplies via pipelines.
“Hungary is a landlocked country,” Orban said. – “We depend on transportation routes that provide Hungary with energy. These are mainly pipelines.”
He noted that it is necessary to convey to the United States an understanding of this special situation if the country wants to achieve an exemption from sanctions against Russia.
