Trump will come to Britain, but he won’t be doing politics

The UK is preparing for a possible visit by US President Donald Trump. This was reported by Sky News, citing its own sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to preliminary data, Trump may arrive in Scotland in late July or early August. However, the American president will not be there to celebrate the greatness of America – he is going to his own golf clubs.

Police in Scotland have confirmed that they are preparing for a “potential visit…later this month.” Sky News sources in law enforcement agencies say that security meetings are underway this week. In the event of a visit, up to 5,000 officers could be deployed in 12-hour shifts.

The exact date of the trip has not yet been determined – the president’s schedule remains “flexible,” as the sources diplomatically put it. At the same time, his son Eric Trump previously reported that his father intends to attend the official opening of a new golf course in Aberdeenshire this summer.

This may be Donald Trump’s first visit to Scotland since he won the US presidential election.

The president’s Scottish representatives have not commented on the situation. But it seems that this time Trump’s attention will be focused not on political maneuvers, but on the trajectory of the ball.

Trump’s golf empire

Over the past two decades, Donald Trump has not only been president and engaged in business, but has also been actively building his own golf empire, particularly in Scotland. Starting in 2006, he bought land near Aberdeen, where in 2012 he opened Trump International Golf Links on the Menie Estate. The project immediately sparked resistance from local residents and environmentalists: the construction damaged unique dunes that had a protected status. The confrontation even became the subject of the documentary You’ve Been Trumped, which shows conflicts between Trump and Scottish farmers.

At the same time, Trump also acquired the legendary Turnberry resort in Ayrshire (2014), which used to be the site of The Open Championship. It was turned into one of the most expensive in the world – a round here can cost up to £1,000. But it did not bring him success: due to attacks by eco-activists and financial difficulties, the project suffered many years of losses.

Today, the US president’s golf empire is assessed ambiguously. Resorts in Florida (Mar-a-Lago, Doral, Jupiter) generate stable revenue and are a key source of cash, bringing Trump about $80 million in net income in 2024 after operating expenses. At the same time, overseas projects, especially in Scotland, are showing financial weakness – Trump International Golf Links (Aberdeen) is experiencing its 12th year of losses, and Turnberry lost its previous profit last year.
