US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will appoint Elon Musk and Republican politician Vivek Ramaswamy as co-chairs of the Department of Government Efficiency, a new executive agency.
Trump expressed confidence that “these two great Americans will pave the way for my administration to cut red tape, reduce over-regulation, end wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies.”
In his statement, Trump said he would “provide advice and guidance from outside the government” in partnership with both the White House and the Office of Management and Budget.
The future owner of the White House has set a deadline for the new agency to achieve all of these goals – July 4, 2026, the day of US independence.
This step may lead to significant staff reductions, as Musk has previously called for. He also said that he believes that $2 trillion can be saved from the state budget.
Elon Musk has invested about $200 million in Donald Trump’s campaign. Vivek Ramaswamy was a Republican presidential candidate, but after losing the primaries, he quickly became one of the most visible Trump supporters in the public space.
