US President Donald Trump said on Friday, July 4, that during his last telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on July 3, he warned of the possibility of tightening US sanctions over Russia’s war against Ukraine, and Putin, according to him, was concerned about this prospect and understood that sanctions could be imposed.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to DW.
Answering questions from journalists on board the presidential Air Force One, Trump also said that he was very unhappy with his phone conversation with Putin about the conflict in Ukraine, noting that the Russian leader wants to “keep killing people.”
“This is a very difficult situation. I have already told you that I was very unhappy with my conversation with President Putin. He wants to go all the way, just keep killing people, that’s not good,” Trump said.
The American president also told reporters that the day before he had spoken on the phone with Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discussed with him the possibility of sending missiles to Kyiv for
patriot air defense systems. “They’re going to need them for defense… They’re going to need something because they’re getting hit a lot,” Trump said. He praised the effectiveness of the Patriot missiles, calling them “very impressive.”
