Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump said that Washington had allegedly reached an agreement with Moscow to end the war against Ukraine. Now, according to him, it is necessary to reach an agreement with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to Trump, Russia is “ready to make a deal” on peace.
“And I think we have reached an agreement with Russia. We have to make a deal with Zelenskiy. I thought it would be easier to negotiate with Zelensky. So far, it is more difficult,” the American president said.
Trump expressed hope that Zelensky and Russian dictator Putin would reach an agreement “because I want to save the situation, and as you know, we’ve spent a lot of money, but we’re talking about the fate of many people.”
“I have no favorites. I don’t want to have favorites. I just want the deal to be signed. We have to get two people, two strong people, two smart people to agree. And as soon as they agree, the killing will stop,” the White House chief summarized.
What official Kyiv says
Speaking to journalists on April 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian side had not received any messages regarding the exchange or abandonment of certain occupied territories, only signals through the media.
He also said that Ukraine would never legally recognize Crimea as Russian.
“There is nothing to talk about. This is outside our Constitution. This is our territory, the territory of the people of Ukraine. It will not be,” the president emphasized.
In addition, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is ready to agree to an unconditional ceasefire and continue to participate in negotiations on a lasting peace in any format.
