Trump lifts sanctions against Syria

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to end the sanctions program against Syria. Representatives of the White House announced this on the official account of the department in the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“The executive order lifts sanctions against Syria while maintaining sanctions against Bashar al-Assad, his associates, human rights abusers, drug traffickers, chemical weapons, ISIS and its affiliates, and Iranian proxies,” the statement reads.
Trump signed the executive order to support Syria “on its path to stability and peace,” the White House added.
The Syrian government, in turn, hopes that the easing of sanctions will contribute to the country’s recovery through the inflow of foreign investment and trade.
As a reminder, the Central Bank of Syria announced the first international banking transaction via SWIFT since the beginning of the civil war. The isolation of the Syrian banking system began in 2011 after the suppression of protests by the Bashar al-Assad regime.
