U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States is close to achieving its objectives in the war against Iran and is considering “wind down” the military campaign. He cited the complete destruction of Iran’s missile capabilities and defense-industrial base, the elimination of its naval and air forces—including air defense systems—and preventing Tehran from advancing toward the creation of nuclear weapons as the operation’s objectives. Another objective, according to Trump, is to provide “the highest level of protection” for Washington’s allies in the region, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, writes [Komersant].

Regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. president stated that its security should be ensured by the countries that use it.

“The United States will not do this! We will assist these countries in their efforts, but there should be no need for this once the threat from Iran is eliminated,” he wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

Meanwhile, as CBS reported yesterday, citing informed sources, the Pentagon has begun active preparations for a possible deployment of ground troops to Iran. Senior officials have issued specific requests related to preparations for such a scenario, as Trump, according to the sources, is considering such steps. As part of the preparations, meetings were held on the detention of Iranian soldiers and militants, including the identification of locations for prisoners. The Army Rapid Response Force and Marine Corps expeditionary units are participating in the planning.
