US President Donald Trump said he had received new information about Russian dictator Vladimir Putin that could affect Washington’s further actions regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine. He said this during a press conference at the White House, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

When asked by journalists whether he had recently spoken with Putin, Trump said:

“I have not spoken to him. I learned things that will be very interesting. I think you will find out in the coming days.”

The American president also commented on the possibility of his reaction if the meeting between Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not take place, as he had previously insisted.

“Let’s see what happens. Let’s see what they do and what happens next. I am closely monitoring the situation. Last week, they lost 7,000 – 7,313 troops between the two countries, to be precise – for no reason. And they are Russians and they are Ukrainians, but, you know, they are soldiers. I want it to end,” Trump emphasized.

He also confirmed that he had a “very good meeting” with Putin a few weeks ago, but made it clear that if diplomatic efforts fail, the United States will reconsider its position.

“If nothing comes of this, we will take a different position,” he said.

Commenting on Putin’s participation in a military parade in China with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Trump said he did not consider it a threat to the United States.

“No. China needs us more than we need them,” the US president said.
