Trump urged Cuba to reach an agreement with the US “before it’s too late.”

Cuba should “make a deal” with the US “before it’s too late.” This statement was made by US President Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday, January 11, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, “for many years, Cuba lived off large amounts of oil and money from Venezuela,” providing “security services” in exchange to Hugo Chávez, who served as president of the South American country from 1999 to 2013, and Nicolás Maduro, the current ruler of Venezuela.

However, the situation will now change, according to Trump’s post: “No more oil or money will flow to Cuba – zero.” “I strongly recommend that they (the Cuban authorities. – Ed.) make a deal (with the US. – Ed.) before it’s too late,” the White House chief threatened.

Cuba’s reaction to Trump’s statements

The Cuban authorities reacted indignantly to Donald Trump’s statements. “Cuba does not receive and has never received monetary or material compensation for security services provided to any country,” Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez emphasized in his microblog on the same day, January 11.

“Unlike the United States, we do not have a government that engages in mercenary activities, blackmail, or military pressure on other states,” the post continues. “Like any other country, Cuba has the absolute right to import fuel from markets that are willing to export it and that exercise their right to develop commercial relations without interference.”

“The United States is behaving like a criminal and uncontrolled hegemon, threatening peace and security not only in Cuba and this hemisphere, but throughout the world,” said the Cuban foreign minister.
