Trump makes new sensational statements: criticism of Germany, Britain, and Spain

During a press conference following his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, US President Donald Trump made a series of controversial statements about European partners. The White House chief expressed dissatisfaction with Germany, Great Britain, and Spain, and again mentioned the war in Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Trump on the war in Ukraine
The American leader said he had expected to end the war in Ukraine sooner than is currently the case.
“We thought it would be one of the easiest wars. I have settled eight wars, and maybe one more. But at least eight wars, big ones, potential ones,” he said.
Trump stressed that he continues to work on ending the war, but the process has proven to be more difficult than expected.
“Hit Germany”: statement during a meeting with Merz
While talking to reporters, Trump jokingly commented on Germany.
“How are we going to deal with Germany? I think we should hit them very, very hard,” he said, laughing.
The statement came amid discussions about defense policy and the participation of European allies in military operations.
Criticism of Spain: threats to stop trade
Trump was particularly harsh in his comments about Spain. According to him, Madrid refused to allow the US to use military bases for operations against Iran.
“Spain was terrible… They said we couldn’t use their bases. We don’t need them. We can fly in whenever we want. We don’t need permission,” he said.
Trump also threatened to sever trade relations with Spain, accusing its leadership of “unfriendliness.”
Dissatisfaction with Great Britain
The US president also expressed his dissatisfaction with the UK. This concerns the situation with British territory in the Indian Ocean, which was leased.
“We were very surprised. It took us three or four days to figure out where we could land there,” Trump said.
He also compared the current Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Winston Churchill, hinting at the British leadership’s lack of decisiveness.
Political consequences
Trump’s statements could affect US relations with European allies against the backdrop of:
- the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East;
- discussions on defense cooperation within NATO;
- the issue of support for Ukraine;
- trade relations between the US and the EU.
Analysts note that such rhetoric increases tensions in transatlantic relations.
