Trukhanov on the deprivation of his citizenship: I will sue

14 October 23:42

Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov asserted that he does not have Russian citizenship and called the decision to terminate his Ukrainian citizenship a “falsification.” He is also preparing lawsuits to Ukrainian courts and the European Court of Human Rights. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Suspilne Odesa.

Trukhanov claims that he has never held Russian citizenship and has never traveled abroad to obtain it. According to him, this is confirmed by the information on crossing the state border in 2015-2016. In addition, government agencies have already conducted relevant checks in previous years.

“In ’22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy… instructed the SBU to check all relevant services in ’22… in ’22, they did not find any Russian citizenship or passports on me,” he said.

Trukhanov added that the “passport” referred to by the authors of the initiative contains mistakes in his surname, but no one has checked it. He intends to appeal the situation in court.

He plans to go to court:

“Unfortunately, it happened as it happened. So I will defend myself, I will sue. If the court fails to resolve the matter, I will file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights… This is the ultimate in, you know, arbitrariness, which cannot be allowed.”

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree depriving several people who hold passports of citizens of the Russian Federation of Ukrainian citizenship.
