Study: morning coffee can promote longevity and healthy aging
American scientists have found that drinking coffee in the morning may be associated with a lower risk of premature death and better health in older age. This is reported by CNN, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Thekey findings of the first study published in the European Heart Journal:
- Participants who drank coffee only in the morning (from 04:00 to 12:00) had a 16% lower risk of premature death and a 31% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease compared to those who did not drink coffee.
- The benefits disappeared if coffee was drunk throughout the day.
- The explanation may be the effect of coffee on circadian rhythms and the sleep hormone melatonin, which is disrupted by late caffeine consumption.
In addition, coffee contains antioxidants that help reduce inflammation, especially in the morning, when inflammatory processes in the body are more active.
Another study presented at the American Society of Nutrition conference analyzed data from more than 47,000 female nurses.
- Women who drank 1-3 cups of caffeinated coffee daily between the ages of 45-60 had a 13% higher chance of healthy aging.
- Consumption of decaffeinated tea or coffee did not have such effects.
Interestingly, the first study found no dependence on the amount or type of coffee – it was the timing of its consumption that mattered. The second study emphasizes the role of the dose and presence of caffeine.
Scientists explain the differences by different methodology and emphasis in the studies.
Bottom line: morning coffee can be good for your health, especially if you don’t abuse it throughout the day.
