Three days without electricity: Poles will learn about survival in war conditions

11 March 12:50

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Security Center of the Polish government are working on a crisis guide that will provide information on how to act in the face of various threats. This was reported by the Polish edition of RMF FM, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Every family in Poland should receive such a brochure – sent by mail – by the end of this year.

“The manual will be ready in April, and in the second half of the year, a printed version will be delivered to every household in Poland as part of the Program for the Protection of the Population and Civil Defense,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration said.

What information will the crisis guide contain?

The guide for times of crisis and war is designed to provide the most important information prepared by experts in an accessible and concise manner.

It will cover how to prepare for a several-day power outage, how not to panic, how to survive a 72-hour crisis, and what to prepare in case of evacuation.

“Within three days, all citizens, every household, must survive on their own,” said Robert Klionowski, deputy director of the Department of Public Protection and Crisis Management at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.

It is reported that the guide will also contain recommendations in the event of a natural disaster: for example, how to prevent a fire in a home, information on first aid for yourself and others, and how to care for pets in emergency situations. The principles of alerting will also be explained so that all citizens know what alarms are and what they mean.

The authors of the publication analyzed similar brochures published in 23 countries, including Sweden and Norway.

The crisis guides will be available online in other languages, including Ukrainian. They will be addressed to those groups and minorities living in Poland. In addition, it is planned to prepare a special version or section of the manual aimed at children.

Polish men will be encouraged to undergo military training

Work is underway to ensure that all men in Poland undergo military training. This was stated by Prime Minister Donald Tusk in his speech in the Polish Parliament.

“We will try to prepare a model by the end of this year so that every adult male in Poland is prepared in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to potential threats,” the head of the Polish government said.

At the same time, Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Zalewski said in an interview with RMF FM that there are no plans to return to general military duty. According to him, work is underway on an incentive system that will encourage as many people as possible to undergo military training.

Many European countries already have their own crisis manuals

In Sweden, the brochure “If Crisis or War Comes” was recently updated from the six-year-old edition due to what the government in Stockholm calls the deteriorating security situation. This includes the war in Ukraine. The booklet is also twice as large.

Neighboring Finland has already published its own fresh advice on “preparing for incidents and crises” online. Norwegians also recently received a brochure urging them to be prepared for various threats. "Komersant Ukrainian"talked about this.

One of the most important recommendations in these brochures is to have enough food and drinking water for up to 72 hours.
