1 July 2024 14:23

This July, there are many holidays, important events, and commemorations of many saints and glorious saints of God. This is reported on the Facebook page of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“At the beginning of the month, we will remember the holy miracle workers Cosmas and Damian, who lived in the third century and were blessed by the Lord with the gift of healing, which was used for the benefit of all and treated for free, for which they were called silverless,”

– the Orthodox Church of Ukraine noted.

7 July according to the New Julian calendar is the Day of All Saints of the Ukrainian Land. On the same day, we will honour the holy new martyrs of the twentieth century who suffered from ungodly persecution, and also remember the Monks Job and Theodosius of Manyavsk, who are considered the founders of the Manyavsk Monastery (Ukrainian Athos).

on11 July, Ukrainians will honour the memory of Princess Olha, the Equal-to-the-Apostles, who was the first Christian woman to sit on the Grand Duke’s throne in Kyiv.

15 July is the day of remembrance of her grandson, Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr the Great, to whom we owe the final establishment of the Orthodox faith: in 988, he decided to build his state as a Christian one.

So on 15 July, we will celebrate the 1036th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine.

on20 July, we will commemorate the holy prophet Elijah, not on 2 August, as before.

on22 July, we will honour the Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene, who is one of the most famous women in the history of the Christian faith.

24 July – the Feast of the Blessed Princes Boris and Gleb.

25 July – the Assumption of the Righteous Anna, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

on27 July, we will honour the memory of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon.

On the last day of July, Ukraine will prepare for the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy and Life-Giving Cross, as well as for the beginning of the Assumption Fast.

When to observe Peter’s Fast

“It should also be noted that due to the calendar reform this year, we celebrated the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul before the traditionally scheduled period of Peter’s Fast, which lasts from the Monday after the commemoration of All Saints to the day of the First Apostles. Therefore, following the example of other Churches that have previously introduced the New Julian calendar, for those who wish to observe the apostolic fast, the Church advises to do so on the first weekdays of July, from Monday to Friday (1-5 July),”

– the OCU added.
