Cherry prices are shocking: a new record cost per kilogram

Prices for cherries have already jumped to 150-220 hryvnia per kilogram on the wholesale market – it is 10% more than a week ago.

This was reported by analysts of the project EastFruit . Transmits "Komersant Ukrainian".

In supermarkets the situation is even more tangible. For example, in “Silpo” cherries cost from 250 to 650 hryvnia per kilogram depending on the variety.

Analysts explain the rise in price by the shortage of berries at the end of the season and lower yields. Despite the growth of purchase prices, wholesalers cannot meet the needs of the market in full. Compared to last year, prices have increased by 45%.

The reason was a decrease in yield due to unfavorable weather in spring and early summer, as well as a significant increase in cultivation costs. Due to high prices, Ukrainians started buying cherries much less often, experts say.
