Cucumber prices have fallen: what is happening on the vegetable market
26 February 20:43
Ukraine has seen a decline in wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers. Currently, sales are in the range of 125–170 UAH per kilogram, which is on average 11% cheaper than at the end of last week. This was reported by the analytical platform EastFruit, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
More supply — weaker demand
Market participants explain the price decline by two key factors.
First, the supply of “new crop” cucumbers from Ukrainian farms is growing. Almost all stationary greenhouse complexes have already started selling their products, which has increased the volume on the market.
Second, demand is slowing down. Wholesale companies and retail chains have reduced their purchases this week, citing low sales in stores.
Analysts note that the deterioration in sales was one of the decisive factors in the price decline.
Still more expensive than last year
Despite the current price reduction, cucumbers remain significantly more expensive than a year ago. According to experts, the current average price is about 50% higher than at the end of February 2025.
Is a further drop in prices possible?
Most key market players do not rule out further price reductions in the near future. The argument is that supply is increasing daily amid weak consumer activity.
If sales rates do not increase, manufacturers may continue to revise their price tags to stimulate sales.
