Tomato prices in Ukraine have skyrocketed: what are the reasons?
18 January 14:17
A significant reduction in the supply of greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market this week has allowed sellers to slightly increase their selling prices in this segment, according to analysts at EastFruit. Turkey remains the main supplier of products at this time of year, but over the past few weeks, the volume of greenhouse tomato supplies from Turkey has decreased slightly, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the project’s daily monitoring data, greenhouse tomatoes are currently offered in the Ukrainian market in the wholesale segment at a range of 90–110 UAH/kg (2.09–2.55 USD/kg), which is on average 12% more expensive than at the end of last week. At the same time, experts note that sellers are reluctant to raise prices more significantly, given the rather weak demand from both wholesale companies and retail chains.
It should be noted that greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are currently selling for an average of 10% more than in mid-January 2025. At the same time, many market participants agree that this price situation in this segment is temporary. They do not rule out that tomatoes will start to become cheaper again next week after the normalization of Turkish product supplies to the Ukrainian market.
