Plum prices in Ukraine fall for the fifth week in a row: seasonal surplus and weak demand
8 August 20:38
For the fifth week in a row, Ukraine has seen a rapid decline in plum prices. The reason is the excessive supply of products from local farms against the background of very low demand from wholesale companies. This was reported by EastFruit analysts, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Current situation (August 2025)
- Prices for plums range from 15-40 UAH/kg ($0.36-0.96/kg), depending on the variety, quality and volume of lots.
- This is 29% cheaper than at the end of the previous business week.
- Hot weather accelerates ripening, but worsens the quality of the fruit, which further puts pressure on prices.
- Despite the decline in prices, plums are still 50% more expensive than in early August 2024.
Dynamics for 2023-2024
- In August 2024, prices for plums amounted to 8-14 UAH/kg ($0.19-0.34/kg), which was 54% cheaper than a week earlier.
- In 2023, the average price in the same period was about 33% lower than in 2024.
- The reasons for the fall in prices in previous years were oversupply, weak demand, and the impact of heat on fruit quality.
Growers’ forecasts
- Growers do not rule out further price cuts to stimulate sales.
- The situation repeats itself every year: excessive supply in the season, weak wholesale demand, and as a result, pressure on the market.
