The cyclone isn’t letting up: Frost is forecast for Ukraine on April 9, with rain and sleet in some areas
9 April 04:02
Cold and unsettled weather will persist in Ukraine on Thursday, April 9. Forecasters predict cloudy skies with some sunny intervals, light rain and sleet in some areas, as well as nighttime frost on the ground and, in some places, in the air. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Due to the cold snap, yellow and orange danger levels have been declared in a number of regions.
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, cold weather in Ukraine over the coming days will be driven by a cyclone and the influx of cold air from the north. That is why nighttime temperatures will remain near freezing, and in some regions will drop below freezing.
What will the weather be like in Ukraine on April 9
Most regions are expected to have cloudy weather with some clear spells. In some places, there will be light precipitation in the form of rain and wet snow. In the east of the country, fog is possible in some areas at night and in the morning. Daytime temperatures will mostly range from 3 to 8 degrees, and in the south and east, up to 10–11 degrees in some places.
At night, the weather will be significantly colder. Ground frosts of 0–3 degrees are forecast in many regions.
Separately, forecasters are also warning of air frosts in a number of regions.
Where the most severe frosts are expected
According to forecasters’ warnings, air frosts of 0…-3 degrees are expected across Ukraine on the nights of April 9 and 10. A Level II (orange) danger alert has been issued for these days.
Separately, ground frosts of 0…-3 degrees will be recorded on the nights of April 9, 10, and 11. A Level I danger alert (yellow) is in effect for this phenomenon in many regions.
Such weather conditions pose a threat primarily to early crops, flowering trees, seedlings, and other cold-sensitive plants.
What will the weather be like in Kyiv and the region
Cold weather will also persist in Kyiv and the Kyiv region on April 10. Cloudy skies with some sunny intervals are expected, with light rain and wet snow in some areas.
In the capital, the air temperature will be around 0–2 degrees at night and up to 5–6 degrees during the day.
A warning about a dangerous drop in temperature is also in effect for Kyiv.
Why the weather remains unstable
The reason for this cold snap is the influence of a cold air mass and cyclonic weather, which continues to shape the atmospheric conditions over Ukraine.
Because of this, the spring warming is on hold for now, and precipitation is turning into wet snow in some places.
What to keep in mind
Forecasters advise paying attention to frost warnings, especially drivers, farmers, and homeowners with garden plots.
Due to fog in the east and nighttime cooling, road conditions in some regions may become difficult.
