Turkey shoots down a drone over the Black Sea: what is known

The Turkish military destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle that was approaching the country’s airspace over the Black Sea. The incident occurred on Monday, December 15. This was reported by the Turkish Ministry of Defense on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to the ministry, the air target was identified as a drone that was out of control and posed a potential security threat.

The decision to destroy it was made to prevent threats

The Turkish Ministry of Defense noted that in order to prevent possible negative consequences, a decision was made to destroy the air target. The drone was shot down by F-16 fighters of the Turkish Air Force.

“It was found that the target was an unmanned aerial vehicle that had gotten out of control. In order to avoid possible negative consequences, it was hit and shot down in a safe zone,” the Ministry of Defense said in an official statement.

The drone was shot down outside of populated areas

The ministry emphasized that the drone was destroyed in a safe zone over the Black Sea, outside of populated areas. This avoided a threat to civilians and infrastructure.

At the same time, the Turkish side did not say whether it was possible to establish the identity of the downed drone after the incident.
