Silence around the NSDC: why Yermak’s status has not been clarified yet

3 December 2025 12:26

After Andriy Yermak was dismissed from the position of the head of the Presidential Office, the attention of experts and the media shifted to another issue – whether he retained his seat on the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Although official reports referred exclusively to his resignation from the Presidential Office, there was no direct mention of Yermak’s status change in the NSDC, and according to the NSDC official website, the politician is still a member, "Komersant Ukrainian" writes.

The NSDC is a coordinating body composed of ex officio officials and those whom the president may additionally appoint. Accordingly, the decision on the composition of the NSDC depends solely on the head of state, and each such decision is usually recorded in a separate decree. That is why the delay or absence of public information about possible changes raises the assumption that Yermak could have maintained his presence in this body even after his dismissal from the Presidential Office.

However, without a published decree, any statements remain mere speculation. Until the list of NSDC members is officially updated, the question of Andriy Yermak’s status remains open.

Yermak’s resignation

As a reminder, on the morning of Friday, November 28, NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors came to the office of the head of the OP Andriy Yermak with searches. After a while, Yermak confirmed the searches, saying that he was cooperating with the investigation and that his lawyers were in contact with law enforcement.

According to media reports, these actions may relate to an investigation codenamed Midas, a large corruption scheme in the energy sector. It is known to involve the co-owner of Kvartal-95, Timur Mindich, and some other senior Ukrainian officials.

Politicians and the media have speculations about who might be involved in the decrees from the person with the nickname “Ali Baba” who coordinates attacks on NABU and SAPO. There are opinions that the “Mindich tapes” referred to Yermak.

After the searches, which took place in the late afternoon, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Andriy Yermak had written a letter of resignation. After a while, it became known that the head of state had signed a decree dismissing the head of the OP.

On the night of November 29, The New York Post reported that Yermak had decided to go to the front.

In addition, on the same day, the former head of the OP gave a comment to the Financial Times. He noted that he did not hold a grudge against Zelenskyy, adding that he had been his friend both before and after this job.
