Thousands of Porsches are stranded on an island in Kenya due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz

Ships carrying thousands of new luxury cars have docked at Lamu Island, located off the coast of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. This is a result of shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by U.S. and Israeli operations against Iran, according to the newspaper Bild, as reported by [Komersant].

Currently, about 4,000 cars have already been unloaded on the island, including new Porsche and Volkswagen models. These ships were en route from Japan to Dubai, but their routes were changed due to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Lamu has a population of only about 25,800 people, and its area is just 57 square kilometers. It is noted that the use of cars is prohibited on the island, with the exception of official vehicles belonging to the local administration and ambulances. The transport of goods and people is carried out either by ship or by pack animals.

Last week, two ships already unloaded cars at the port of Lamu, and they are now awaiting further instructions. Another ship carrying 5,000 new cars is scheduled to arrive next week.
