Thousands of Ukrainians left without heat and water after Russian attack

Following the overnight Russian attack on Ukraine, recovery efforts continue in many regions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, it was a “militarily meaningless strike” that affected civilian facilities and the energy sector.
“The main targets of these strikes are again energy. The goal of the Russians is to hurt millions of Ukrainians, and they have already fallen so low that they are launching missiles at peaceful cities on St. Nicholas Day. That is why additional pressure is needed,” the Ukrainian president wrote on Telegram.
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine: Power facilities damaged in eight regions
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that a massive missile and drone strike was carried out “on electricity generation, distribution and transmission facilities” in eight regions of the country – Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv. As a result of the attack in the morning, consumers in Odesa, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv regions were cut off from electricity. Schedules of hourly power outages have been introduced in all Ukrainian regions.
In total, 10 regions are under the attack, said Ihor Klymenko, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. “In most of them, there were direct hits to residential buildings, the energy sector, and the railroad. More than two dozen buildings were damaged in Kyiv, Dnipro, Zhytomyr and Lviv regions,” he wrote on Telegram.
Oleksiy Kuleba, Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, noted that 9,500 subscribers in Odesa region are left without heat supply as a result of the damage, and 34,000 subscribers are without water supply.
Ukraine’s Interior Ministry reports at least eight people injured in the attack
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, at least eight people were injured in the attack: three in Kyiv region, three in Dnipropetrovs’k region, and two in Lviv region. Almost 500 rescuers and about 200 police officers are involved in the response to the attacks.
In total, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 653 drones and 51 missiles overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down and intercept 585 drones and 30 missiles, including 29 Iskander-K, Kalibr, X-101 cruise missiles, and one Iskander-M ballistic missile.
