The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) provided an official response to "Komersant Ukrainian" regarding the number of verdicts delivered in 2024.
According to the court’s automated document management system, in 2024, the HACC delivered
- 68 guilty verdicts that resulted in the conviction of 112 people.
- 9 acquittals involving 10 people;
Thus, in total, in 2024, the court considered dozens of cases that resulted in both acquittals and guilty verdicts against persons accused of corruption crimes.
We would like to add that the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) will submit an indictment against Oleh Hunko, prosecutor of the Department for Combating Human Rights Violations in Law Enforcement and Penitentiary Spheres of the Prosecutor General’s Office, to the court after January 20. He is accused of receiving undue advantage.
Earlier, the NABU and the SAPO detained two prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office while receiving an undue advantage. According to the investigation, they received $170,000 for closing criminal proceedings. Oleh Hunko was detained directly during the money transfer.
Thus, the fight against corruption remains one of the key components of legal reform in Ukraine. However, identifying and prosecuting offenders is only part of the job. Enforcement of sentences and further prevention of corruption are equally important for the rule of law.
