On the night of Saturday, January 17, an explosion occurred in a high-rise building in Kharkiv. The incident resulted in fatalities and injuries. This was reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov on his Telegram channel, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, the emergency occurred in the Saltivsky district. He did not provide any further details.
“As a result of an explosion of unknown origin, we have fatalities and injuries in a high-rise building in the Saltivsky district. We are investigating the details,” Terekhov said at first.
He later added that the body of a second victim had been found at the site of the explosion.
“Search and rescue operations are ongoing,” the mayor of Kharkiv emphasized.
City authorities and emergency services are working at the scene of the tragedy. Law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances and causes of the explosion, considering all possible versions.
At the same time, no air raid alert was declared in Kharkiv at the time of the explosion. The sirens sounded later, at 2:19 a.m.
