The world’s tallest statue of the Virgin Mary has been erected in Brazil, its height is 51 meters. This was reported by the official website of the state of Ceará, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The statue is located on a hill in the city of Cratu. The monument was erected on the territory of the sanctuary of the same name, which is a major center of Catholic pilgrimage.
For comparison, the famous statue of Christ the Savior in Rio de Janeiro reaches 30 meters without a pedestal, significantly inferior to the new monument in height. The statue of the Virgin Mary also surpasses the Statue of Liberty in New York, which is 46 meters high.
The project of the new statue of Our Lady of Fatima in Kratu was part of a large-scale initiative of the local authorities, who decided to completely replace the old 45-meter-high monument in 2024. The old statue had lost its strength and had visible defects, so it was decided to create a taller and more expressive image.
The sculptor Ranilson Viana, known for religious projects, was invited to work on the project. Based on a 3D scan of the old figure and preserving the key traditions of Fatima iconography, he designed a modern monument.
