Since 5 June, banknotes with the portrait of King Charles III, who came to the throne in autumn 2022, have been in circulation in the UK. This was reported by the Bank of England,

The new banknotes will be introduced gradually. Charles III’s portrait will appear on all four £5, £10, £20 and £50 banknotes, with no other changes to their design.

The notes bearing the portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II will also remain valid and will be used alongside the King Charles III notes.

“New banknotes will be printed only to replace worn-out banknotes and to meet the general increase in demand for banknotes. This approach is in line with the Royal Court’s instructions to minimise the environmental and financial impact of this change,”

– the bank said in a statement.

The new notes can be checked using the same security features as the existing Queen Elizabeth II notes.
