One of the oldest museums in the world, the French Louvre, has been robbed, and investigative actions are underway.

This was reported by French Minister of Culture Rashida Dati on her page on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“This morning at the opening of the Louvre, there was a robbery. No one was injured. I am at the scene with museum staff and police. An investigation is underway,” she wrote.

The museum administration closed it to the public.

According to Le Parisien, citing preliminary investigation data, the criminals, completely hiding their faces, entered the building on the banks of the Seine, where construction work was underway. They used a freight elevator to go directly to a room in the Apollo Gallery.

After breaking the windows, two men entered the building, while the third remained outside. The thieves stole nine items from the collection of Napoleon and the Empress’s jewelry: a necklace, a brooch, a tiara, and more.

According to the newspaper’s source, the famous Regent, the largest diamond in the collection, weighing over 140 carats, was not stolen. The damage is yet to be assessed.
