The Russian military destroyed all the thermal power plants that provided Kharkiv with heat. This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian government Denys Shmyhal during a press conference on 10 September, reports [Kommersant].
“We focused on Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region because we understand that the Russians have actually destroyed all the thermal power plants that were around Kharkiv and kept Kharkiv alive,” Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister added that mobile boiler houses will be brought to the city for the winter to heat the citizens.
“We are bringing small, 1 MW mobile boiler houses, which are installed by local authorities,” Shmyhal said.
What will be the situation with the energy sector in Ukraine in winter?
The Ministry of Energy has already warned that Ukrainians should take care of insulating their homes for the winter. Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk said during a national telethon on 10 September that people should take care of the primary measures to insulate and improve the energy efficiency of their homes ahead of the heating season.
“The second and most important thing is to use the tools provided by the state, namely financial loans that allow you to purchase simple technical solutions. For example, the installation of rooftop solar panels, various equipment, and generators that can cover the usual needs of a household consumer,” the official said.
In its turn, the Centre for Countering Disinformation urges not to believe the Russian IPSO that Ukraine is facing the most difficult winter in the country’s history.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation, said that the Russians were aiming to maximise the energy sector.
“(They will say – ed.) that Ukraine will allegedly be deprived of imports, and in general will enter a “complete blackout”. They call this campaign ‘Black Winter’. This campaign will intensify closer to October-November and will be correlated with possible strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure,” Kovalenko predicted.
