The Christmas tree and New Year’s decorations on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv are to be made at the expense of patrons. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The city will not spend budget funds to create New Year’s locations.
In addition, there are no mass celebrations in the capital, such as fairs, food courts, and attractions on the main squares. However, in order not to leave Kyiv residents, especially children, without a festive mood, it is possible to arrange a Christmas tree on St. Sophia Square at the expense of patrons, as in previous years.
“After all, a traditional Christmas tree is not just a symbol of the holiday, but also a powerful support for the emotional mood of Kyiv residents in this difficult period. It is also another way of strengthening their spirit and embodying the hope necessary for resilience in the face of Russian aggression,” the statement said.
GLOBAL-DECOR LLC has already approached the Kyiv City State Administration with proposals to arrange the Christmas tree and decorations already at their disposal. In addition, they are ready to take over the installation and maintenance of the main Christmas tree, as well as all resources and financial support.
It is also known that the New Year’s design project of the location with an artificial Christmas tree, which will be decorated with thematic décor, is already underway.
What will the Christmas tree look like on Sofiyivska Square?
Igor Dobrutsky, president of Folk Ukraine, the company that organizes the New Year’s Eve celebration on St. Sophia Square, spoke about the details of the 2024-2025 Christmas tree installation.
According to him, the Christmas tree will be 12-15 meters high and will be set up by December 6, which is the traditional date. This year it is planned to be white, symbolizing a white canvas, a life from scratch. The tree will be decorated with sky-blue garlands to symbolize the clear and safe sky over Ukraine.
“And according to our very first idea, the ‘new history of the country’ would be written on a white canvas by children from schools from different parts of the country,” Dobrutsky explained.
At the photo zone, it will be possible to donate to charities using a QR code. Everyone will be able to take a heart at the photo zone and transfer money to charity.
